Bob Benning School of Golf

Bob Benning Portrait Throughout his years of administering high-level golf operations at some of America's top country clubs, Bob Benning has remained heavily involved in his first love, teaching the game of golf. During the thousands of golf lessons he has given, he has studied the golf swing and what makes golfers successful, from beginners to the very best amateur and professional golfers.

His knowledge of teaching the game was shaped as an assistant professional to the legendary golf instructor, Claude Harmon, father of Tiger Woods' former mentor, Butch Harmon. Bob has also been recognized by Golf Digest as one of the "top golf instructors in Virginia."

Bob served as Head Professional for 11 years at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD, site of the 1976 PGA Championship, the 1995 U.S. Senior Open and the 1997 U.S. Open. While there, he instructed many of Washington's and the country's top business people and lawmakers.

As a player, Bob competed with many of the world's top professionals on the PGA Tour, the Latin America Tour, The South African Tour, in two U.S. Opens and PGA Championships; and in Scotland, Portugal and Bermuda with club teams.

Bob worked with ABC-TV golf telecasts, assisting Chris Schenkel, Jim McKay, Byron Nelson and Dave Marr in their descriptions of major golf championships throughout the U.S. He also worked with Mutual Radio Network as an on-course reporter for major championships in the U.S. and Great Britain.

Prior to Congressional Country Club, Bob was Head Professional at Plainfield (NJ) Country Club. After Congressional, he served as the first Director of Golf at Lansdowne Conference resort in Leesburg, VA. Bob then became Director of Golf at Stoneleigh Golf Club, in Round Hill, VA. He now devotes his full time at Stoneleigh to his School of Golf.

Bob's love and knowledge of golf, his years of experience and his desire to see others improve their skills and enjoy the game, will put beginners at ease and help experienced golfers reach their potential.
